Definition

The ground reaction force (GRF) on a body in contact with the ground (a (typically horizontal) plane) is the total contact force exerted by the ground on the body. It is the vector sum of the normal force exerted by the ground and the friction exerted by the ground (which may be static friction or kinetic friction).
